I started running in the fall of 1999. Since then, I have lost weight, toned up, improved my endurance, and I have became a healthier person. I was never a great runner, never competitive, always slow, but always able to finish.
Running is over-- for me. My back, my knee, and my neck just can't handle it anymore. I cry because I miss it, I cry when I think about being left out, and I cry about my lack of ability. Also, I cry because whenever I encourage Mallory to run, she complains saying, "my back hurts."
Okay, enough sadness. Now, I am moving on. I have graduated from PT, I have been given the green light to restart weight training--in small doses with wimpy weights-- and I have been swimming. I've been swimming between 3-4 miles per week on a four day rotation. In fact, I've lost a few more pounds.
Sometimes we have to make due with what we have and be thankful for everything we can do, for our future, and for the people in our lives. 'Nuff said, so no more talk about me and running.
I understand. I am so proud of you!
ReplyDeleteLove you, Anna!
ReplyDeleteAnna- I'm glad to hear that you get to start back with the weights. I know you've been looking forward to that for a while now. The news about the running sucks, and I hate that you're upset about it. I'm upset about it, too. I just want you to know that you have been and STILL ARE a great partner. I don't want you to worry that you'll be left out because that's NOT going to happen. There are plenty of tri-relays in the warmer months that we can participate in (especially since you've got the swimming covered). There are also plenty of local cycling events- if you want to try that. And- don't forget that there are always walkers at the running events. So, get ready- we've got a lot of fun ahead of us next year. BTW- I have that pictue on my blog- Feb of 2010.
ReplyDeleteHey Anna~ I'm sorry to hear that you will no longer be able to run. I did not realize how long you have been doing it. I can only imagine how it leaves an emptiness inside of you. I'm glad to hear that you will be able to replace running with weights and swimming. You have always been determined to accomplish so many things in your life. You are a great planner, very resourceful, and honest person and I've always admired these qualities about you. I hope you are still able to enjoy events even though you will not be running in them. PS. Thank you for your comment on my page. It has helped me begin to heal.
